Update Sunday 26 June 2022

My bedroom growing up was my private domain

Although my mom and dad were strict, they allowed me a certain leeway in how I decorated it. In fact, reading my moms diaries now, I can truly say that she never had anything bad to say about what I put on the walls, her only ongoing complaint was of my utter untidiness…. It drove her mad!
So much so that it was an amazing day indeed, when I arrived back from school one afternoon, to find a lot of my clothing lying outside my bedroom window in the mud. Mom had decided to look under my bed for some reason that day, and was horrified to find all my dirty clothes, shoes, racquet and much more, kicked under there, instead of it being put away where they belonged.

She apparently used the broom to collect the lot, opened the window and just tossed them outside where I had to retrieve them, wash them and put them away, on my return from school. I never tried that time saving hack again!

But I digress.

What brought this memory to mind was that the girls and I went to see Elvis, the movie this afternoon. I had all the centre folds of rock stars and bands plastered around my bedroom growing up. I really can’t remember all of them, but Elvis was definitely amongst them. How I would lie on the bed imagining how one day I might meet one of these icons occupied a fair amount of my day dreaming!
Now to speak about the movie. I don’t really think I enjoyed it. Mainly because it was very loud and busy, but also finding out about the life that your hero lived, removes the romantic dreams that I have always had when thinking about him. I was well aware of his shortfalls, being sent to Germany for two years, his marriage to the most beautiful Pricilla and his eventual downward slide into drugs and excessive weight gain, but there was so much more that I was not aware of.

Tom Hanks, one of my favourite actors,

played the part of his questionable manager and by all accounts, was a real sleaze ball who after Elvis died, was found to have been siphoning off his money during their years of being together. I find it truly sad to see the pressure that these artists put themselves under to remain in the limelight, even to the end.
After the show I left there feeling happy that my life, simple and uninspiring, has given me more happiness than I imagine Elvis had. This is obviously written tongue in cheek, as he had everything his heart desired, but I don’t think he was happy or contented with what he had. But this is just my assumption. It was a long movie and when it ended it was 19:00 and already dark outside.

We got to Galleria at around 12:30 and met up at Mozambique

a restaurant right next to the cinemas. We had a very leisurely lunch and only discovered then, that the movie was starting at 16:30! This gave me the opportunity to go downstairs to Toys R Us to enquire as to whether they had the Mexican Train game in stock.

The young man who served us was truly an asset to their company.

He had not heard of the game but was quick to get onto their computer and within five minutes had located it in one of their on line shops. After confirming that it was the correct one, he assured me that it would be ready for collection, from their store this coming Wednesday. What a pleasure to meet someone who has this type of work ethic.
Looking forward to teaching my friends this game. It is fast moving, fun and a change to the usual games we play.

And that is all for tonight. I hope you all sleep tight, stay warm and keep safe.

Blessings and love 💕
