And just like that, the week is over.
I thought that as I matured, the time would be longer, that I would have extra time on my hands and time to think about things, but that is not the case at all!
Wednesday saw a group of us congregate at the Coffee Theatre to celebrate the birthday which was meant to be a surprise, but turned out not to be…
There were beautiful bronze red long stemmed roses on the table and three tables had been pushed together. I know this particular coffee shop and how popular it is, but a few of the ladies had not been there for some time and were astounded at how busy it was. Fortunately Toni had pre booked the venue and had it not been for her forward arrangement, we would have not been able to eat there.
They have a very delicious special for breakfast and all but one of us ordered it. For R49 one is given 5 items, an egg, a cheese griller, hash brown toast and tomato. And if that is not enough, one can have either a cappuccino, coffee or tea included in the price!
The cappuccino is always served with a miniature pastry. On Wednesday, it was a peppermint tasting little tart. Light and perfect.
So much so that most of us ordered extra just as a further treat. I thought I would take my two home for later during the day, but changed my mind and ate them both while we still sat there talking! I think the party went off well and Bets appeared to be very chuffed.
During tenpin on Tuesday I was invited to join in the Wednesday quiz night by two of the ladies. This is held upstairs in the bar at the bowling alley. I am truly not partial to these quiz type outings as I have no interest in politics and sport, am tone deaf, so can’t contribute to the song section either. But with persuasion, my arm was twisted and I agreed to attend at 18:00.
On arriving there I found the place packed. Lots of laughter and drinking already underway. I found Wendy, Berry and Caryl sitting at a table and my bar stool was waiting. We were asked if a young girl could join our team and we were delighted to have the extra brain power. There were three pages of questions. Songs, movies and the last twenty questions were divided between sport and general knowledge.
Wendy chose our team name, which was, 4 Bitches and a Puppy, and we set about trying to play. It was totally hilarious as one of us in the team was unable to speak quietly as we discussed the answers to be given, but constantly had to be told to zip her lips! It made no difference however, and she continued to ‘project her voice’ all the time. It was so funny!
Anyway, to cut a long story short, we managed to win the competition that night. I didn’t add much towards the win, but Erin, the young girl and her father, Ray, who also snuck into our team were very helpful on every topic. They have asked if they can join our team next week as well, so our team name will need to change. We each won a hundred rand voucher, a heavy J&B glass and a free Tenpin game! What a lovely surprise.
Yesterday saw me return to Virgin Active where I took an Aqua class.
The water was lovely and warm and it was a good workout. At the end of each session I go to the rail and lift my body out of the water to strengthen my arms. To lift onto the rail one needs to push off the slippery tiles under the water. The first one I did was perfect, slipped back into the water to do the next one, but my left foot slipped on the tiles as I pushed upward.
It felt as tho there was a rough tile that cut the underside of he second toe. I stopped immediately to check whether there was blood coming out of the toe, but couldn’t see anything. But oh my goodness, the pain was unbelievable.
On getting out and sitting down I did a proper check. There was no cut at all. I dressed and hobbled to the car and finally to home. In the evening when I took off my sandal I could see that the toe looked rather deformed. On inspection I think that I have broken the tip of the toe when it bent backwards!
Honestly, these bloody feet of mine are just the pits. Going to bed last night I was once again aware of the pain. There is not much that I can do. The two toes are so widely split from the operations that there will be no chance of ‘buddy’ bandaging them together and I certainly will not be going to have it fixed! Better just fix itself with time.
