Friends are so important …
Throughout life it is important to make friends. There is that lovely post that does the rounds every now and again which says that people come into your life for a reason or a season.
It is up to us to decide which it will be. Friendships are not always clearly defined, and when one suddenly realises that they are not working, it is sad.
However, it doesn’t change what you had …
All it means is that the good and caring times that you shared with that person has taught you the lessons you were lacking and it it time to put on your big girl pants and move on.
Friendships, like all relationships, require work to keep them growing and while most are transient, the few true friendships that last a lifetime are very special. To all my friends, I am blessed to have you in my life and I thank each and every one of you.
I had a visit yesterday from one of my dearest friends…
Although a lot younger than I am, we had the opportunity of working together for many years. Initially it was at the company, Filpro, in Pietermaritzburg, but soon after I changed from working there and taking up the challenge to move to Head Office in Durban, Laurel did the same.
She moved into a lovely home just a stone’s throw from my flat, and our friendship continued.
It is one of those special deals, we don’t see each other that often, but when we do, it is as though time has not changed anything. I love seeing her and the hour or two together is spent catching up on what has transpired in the interim.
She and her husband have now moved from Amanzimtoti and are residents in a very posh and exclusive estate a little down the South Coast. They have a very beautiful home with an enviable view of indigenous gardens and with the sea in the distance. They are happy with their choice of living where they do and I envy them.
The two hours just flew by and I enjoyed the visit.
Tenpin league last night…
I took a while getting zhuzh’ed up for the weekly game but as I opened up the car door and stood outside, I realised that the attempt was all in vain.
The wind was howling to such a degree that my hair looked like it had been pushed into a tumble dryer! It was a mission to make it into the lobby without being blown off my feet.
However once inside it was pleasant. I had a truly unremarkable game on the Tuesday morning with the girls, so had collywobbles in the gut while watching all the league players arriving and putting on their Dexter bowling shoes, removing their 3 balls from their designer bags and getting ready to attack the lanes.
Once the nerves settled down, it was really a fun evening. Most of the players are really good sports and make me feel part of the team. Fortunately I didn’t make too many total disaster shots, and ended with an acceptable score.
Sadly, by the end of the 4 successive game, my foot was letting me know that it was time to say good night and get home! I am so grateful to have had the courage to start playing again.
On ending tonight…
I received this video from another very dear friend today. It is something that I have seen before, and have practiced during my times of bedrest during my foot operations.
I didn’t realise that there were more benefits to be gained from it than just the circulation one. I hope you enjoy watching it and giving it a go!
