Update Monday 24 October 2022

If someone had asked me the day before, what I was going to do on my birthday, I would have smiled and said, be alone at home…

But that is not what happened.  I got a lovely message from Brett and Amor inviting me to spend Monday the 24th with them, to overnight, and then be returned to Toti the following day.

I was ecstatic – but there was a problem.  I was booked into Kingsway Hospital early on the Tuesday, so I asked if they would mind bringing me home on Monday afternoon instead.

They had no objection, so my birthday was spent with them, and it was absolutely super spending it with them.

It is a known fact that my best braai meat is that little mutton chop, the one with the thick bit of fat on the side.  So that was my special treat and I made an absolute pig of myself as I stuffed three down with the most delicious salad al la Amor.

Cashew, Pecan, Almonds and Macadamia nuts were sprinkled into the fresh green salad with Nasturtiums, herbs, thin slithers of carrots and spring onions.  There was a huge dish of caramelized onions, fresh beetroot and the longest Baguette with fresh garlic butter oozing out of it.

There was also marinated chicken, boerewors and small little meat balls, that I never tasted as I was just too full.

As we were getting ready to head home a soft rain started to fall, the animals were stabled and shut in for the night and both Amor and Brett accompanied me home.

The plan was to try to beat the closing time of the factories at Prospecton…

Once 16:30 arrives, the roads are chaotic as the workers try to weave their way home and we wanted to avoid this.  We were well within that time limit, when, as we turned off the Highway to come South at Spaghetti Junction, we came upon a traffic jam that was not moving.

Slowly we were permitted to progress and it was not too much further on that we found out why there was a problem.

A Mahindra Truck was lying on it’s side and ambulances and accident support vehicles were in attendance.  There were 6 people lying motionless on the opposite side of the freeway and I guess that they were passengers on the back of the truck.  What a terrible scene to come across after such a perfect day.

Petros was so happy to be able to take credit for the state of the garden.

Brett and Amor were clearly impressed with the work that he has been doing.  All the ideas and suggestions which they put forward two years ago, are being implemented.  He came upstairs and we had a lovely time with him.

He left with a plate full of food from the lunch and I still had a casserole dish in the fridge full of the salad.

Enough for today.  Sleep tight, pleasant dreams and please stay safe.

Blessings and love 💕
