Today was a good day for me…
Although I didn’t sleep well last night, I was really feeling so much more like myself this morning that I was up and ready to hit the road by 8:30.
Car license…
I miss Tim who used to live in our block of flats. He was always so on the ball and would remind me when my car license was due. He walked past it each time after parking his bike and took notice of things like that.
I was under the impression that October was the month it was due, so was delighted that I remembered, if even on the last day of the month.
On arriving there, I found that it had actually expired on the 30th September, so there was a hefty penalty to pay.
I must give credit to the Licensing Department here in Toti. They have certainly improved the way it is working now, and although two of the credit card machines were out of order, I was in and out of the building within 30 minutes.
It would have been even quicker had I received the SMS which they are meant to send to us to remind us that the license is due. I got one last year, but this year I never did.
Had I received it, I would not even have had to have filled out the renewal form.
Illovo Nursery…
As the licensing department is on the way to the Illovo Nursery I decided to pop in there to sample their quiche as an early brunch.
I phoned a friend who lives in Panarama Park and asked her if she would like to join me there, which she did.
She had just eaten breakfast, so I placed my order for quiche, only to be told that they had a bumper Sunday and were right out of it!
Murphy’s Law, I guess. Anyway I settled on a Crumpet Stack. Three crumpets, with bacon and cheese in between the top two, spinach on the bottom one and a poached egg, drizzled with Hollandaise Sauce on the top.
This stack was held in position by a bamboo skewer and the presentation was good, while the taste was exquisite. I was worried that the crumpets might have had a sweet flavour, but they didn’t.
Jenny arrived as I was eating and we ended off sitting chatting for a nice length of time over a hot chocolate for her and a cappuccino for me.

Banking…
I am truly frustrated by the decline in the banking facilities offered to the public. Standard Bank, the one I deal with, had an ATM at the local Checkers centre opposite the Dolphin Bowl.
For some obscure reason, this has now been taken away as well. But on top of that, the only Banking Hall is in the Galleria Centre, and it is undergoing a face lift at the moment.
After I left the nursery I drove straight to Galleria to ask the staff at the bank to add my Money Market account to my new cell phone.
On arrival I was number 23 in line. We played musical chairs during the hour I was there, but only moved two spaces. I eventually walked out! At the rate they were seeing to the customers, I would have still been sitting there at the end of the day.
Dinner tonight…
I love roasted vegetables. Tonight I made a large stainless steel dish full of butternut, beetroot and plenty of garlic. Drizzled with olive oil, salt and pepper, a sprig of Rosemary and steamed for 45 minutes.
Then I add my balsamic vinegar and grill it till done. I also cut a section of boerewors into the pan and the flavours worked well. This will be my dinner for the next three days.
