I just love this photo of little children. Apparently, it is on Shamian Island in Guangzhou, China and is a popular place for adoptive parents to take photos of their new acquisitions, before taking them home to their new land.
With not much in the way of groceries in my flat, I decided to make an early start by going to Seadoone Checkers. I know that they have a special breakfast which includes a cup of cappuccino, so that was my plan.
There were very few people in the Coffee Theatre shop at that early hour, so I felt confident that I would get the meal without a problem. When the waitress arrived, I didn’t even ask to look at the menu, just asked for the breakfast special! She looked at me as though I was stupid, and said, “The special is only from Monday to Friday before 11 am, so I am sorry, but I cant offer that to you”.
What a let down. Well, instead of the special I had the equivalent meal at full price and it came to R100 instead of R49.99! Mind you, it was worth it anyway as I only managed to eat half in the restaurant and the other half came home with me for dinner tonight, which was a bonus.
While sitting at my computer last night doing the Blog, I became aware of a slight noise in the heavy curtains that I normally keep wide open and held back by curtain tie backs. But at night, while working with the light on inside, I close them to give me privacy from the block of flats that are higher up on the hill.
Not that I think anyone would find it interesting to see me doing this, but it gives me a feeling of comfort. Anyway, I cast my eyes up towards where the sound was coming from and right at the top of the pleat, where the curtain rod goes through the holes, was a dark brown mark.
It was unusual to see anything there and my immediate reaction was that a leaf had somehow become stuck in the closed curtains, and now was visible. On getting up and approaching it, I noticed that it had long, thick legs protruding from the body of what ever it was.
Then I saw it clearly. A spider, the size of the palm of my hand, was viewing me from above. My initial reaction was to grab the Doom and spray it before it moved. But then I decided to rather dislodge it into the trash can. Then sanity prevailed as I imagined getting it to move and that it might then actually jump onto me!
I am battling with mosquitoes at the moment, the very first time in years, and finally decided to quickly finish the blog, get out of the room and shut the door so that he could catch the mosquitoes and hopefully be out of the room in the morning.
First thing, on waking, I came to have a look to see where he was. He was no longer on the curtain, but then I had that sunken feeling in the pit of my stomach… Where the hell was he now?
I found him under the windowsill, sitting very quietly, so I just left him there with the window wide open hoping he will find his own way out.
He is no longer there, but I am also not very comfortable sitting here not knowing where he might be.
Tomorrow a few of my friends are popping around in the afternoon for drinks to celebrate Jenny’s birthday which is actually today. We always have a fun time when we get together and the rest of the people in the flats near by, must be grateful when the party is over and quiet descends on this place I call home.
Blessings and love 💕
