Update Wednesday 24 August 2022

Today is the first time I am attempting to update my Noladwrites.com Blog while using the computer.

Throughout my working life I was a typist and I must confess that I was never sorry that I chose this as a profession.  When, in Standard Six, I failed Latin, Maths and Science, my choices were not that vast.  I had to change to Bookkeeping, Typing and Biology.  I seemed to be more suited to those easy subjects.  Both my brothers excelled in the first choice and attained university degrees, I didn’t.

I can remember the day, having worked for approximately 10 years after my divorce, when I was given a really nice pay rise.  Wow, was I so chuffed with myself.  I phoned my eldest brother in Johannesburg to let him know how well I was doing on my own.

When I blurted out the total of my monthly salary to him, there was silence on the other end of the phone.

Then he said, “Oh shame, Nola.  I get more than that a month for my car allowance.” What a way to burst my bubble.  But I really didn’t mind at all.  I was super happy with my career and the increase!

Another bonus with me doing the typing, is that it has stood me in good stead.  I have been involved in so many activities which would have been so much more difficult, had I not been able to type.

Today was 21 Club day again.  I like to drive my own car to the venue, so that I am not reliant on anyone else for a lift when I am ready to leave.  My friend and I set off in time to be there by 12 midday.

While I collected our drinks from the bar, she signed us both in.  The hall at the Golf Course was beautifully decorated.  One of the ladies had done the table center pieces.  Our table had a small bird cage type arrangement with bright yellow daisies surrounding it.  Inside was a Venetian  Glass Bird and a wispy chiffon scarf acting as the nest inside.  Other tables had different flowers, but the general design was bright and cheery.

We had a very interesting guest speaker today in the form of Karen le Roux, who is a very well known Physiotherapist in Amanazimtoti.  The topic was interesting to me, in particular, as it was on “Sleep Hygiene” – I don’t know too many women who do not battle to either fall asleep or stay asleep, and I am no exception.

The advice given was really interesting.  I will attach it to this blog so that you can all benefit from it.

After the talk we were each given a little brown packet with gold handles.  Inside was the literature as well as a fridge magnate with their  business information printed on for future reference.

The last thing inside the packet was a small KitKat chocolate bar with a number stapled to the top of it.  This was for a lucky draw.  The winner, one of our regulars, won a brilliant pillow.  One that is on sale at the Phisio rooms, and I know is very expensive!  What a lovely gift to have been given.

The food was excellent again.  I, for one, was happy that the roast beef was underdone, this did not suit everyone.  There was a muffin shaped helping of cauliflower and broccoli in a cheese sauce with melted cheese over the top.  Baby, sectioned roast Potatoes, carrots, al dente green beans and savoury rice formed the main dish.

Desert was the most outstanding medium sized milk tart with a dollop of cream in the center as the decoration.  I wish I had that recipe as the crust was crisp and light.

Sadly Gisselle was not available in the kitchen today as her mother is ill.  My prayers and healing thoughts go out to you at this worrying time.

This will not be a long blog tonight as I am still learning how to work it.  But so far, I seem to have the general idea on what is required.  As I acquire more skills I will be able to bring more media into it to make it more interesting.

That is me for tonight. Sleep tight, pleasant dreams and please stay safe.
Blessings and love 💕
