It is close to bed time but I thought I would write about a few things on my mind.
We had our monthly 21 Club today and once again the event was held at the Golf Club. The speaker whom they were hoping to address us was not available so a substitute activity was looked for.
During tenpin bowling on Tuesday one of the players mentioned that she had a method to play karaoke at home, and this was suggested for the Club 21 activity. My heart sank on hearing this, as I imagined it would be a one on one type of sing along – and knowing my lack of being able to sing, it certainly wasn’t on my top ten list to take part in.
July month is traditionally known at ‘Christmas in July’ and, as I got dressed in my only red, green and white ‘Christmassy’ dress and set off for the golf course, I was hesitant. However, during the welcome the plan of action was explained to us all. Lunch would be served at 13:00, followed by karaoke and then pudding after the fun. By this time I was half way through my Rosé, and felt more kindly to what was to come.
Lunch was truly amazing. We were served individual phyllo pastry baskets which were filled with smoked, tender and moist turkey pieces. The trademark small, but plentiful, roast potatoes and vegetables made up the main dish. Our centre piece was created by one of the other tenpin players and looked nice and festive.
After this delicious meal, Caryl started to play the music and Jenny P was the brave lady who sang first.
Sadly the hall that we use has terrible acoustics, so the sound quality was not very good, but the laughter and the group participation of many of those there, made for a fun afternoon. Most of us got up to dance, while there were a few ladies who really were not impressed.
I think it was difficult for those who wore hearing aids who mentioned that the noise was too much. We were more than ready to be served our desert after this and were not disappointed with the thin pancake, with mince pie filling, a butter sauce drizzled over it and a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side with a mint leaf for decoration. Giselle once again can be complimented on the food and presentation.
Barbara Lane who sits at our table produced small packages for all at the table as ‘Christmas gifts’. There were three home made mince pies in each. What a lovely generous gesture. Thanks. I decided to eat one with my evening cup of coffee and I can attest to the taste as well now. They are absolutely the best I have ever tasted. Full of mixed fruit and cherries and with raw oats sprinkled on top. Would love to get the recipe.
We had our body corporate meeting on Tuesday
and was told that the owners of one of the flats in the annex had left for work and forgot to close both their kitchen and bathroom windows. My heart sank as I imagined I was going to hear that they had been robbed.
Well they had. But not the way that I thought! Apparently a troop of monkeys, led by the dominant male, spied these openings. The person living on the floor below became aware of a lot of strange noise coming from above and wondered what was going on. It didn’t take long for him to find out. The window was immediately above his front door which had a fibre glass awning giving cover to it against the rain.
As these marauders left the building, after trashing it and eating all they could find, they jumped onto the awning, which , being fibre glass and brittle, gave way as they fell through it!
I feel desperately sorry for the owners when they came home and am grateful I didn’t have to clean up the mess.
